How to find the WAN IP on NETGEAR routers
Use this guide to locate the WAN IP on NETGEAR routers and compare it with the public IP detected by your browser.
Step-by-step
Where to look in NETGEAR routers
- 1.Sign in to the router admin page.
- 2.Open the Advanced or Internet status section.
- 3.Locate the WAN IP, Internet Port, or IP Address field.
- 4.Compare that IPv4 value with the detected public IP on this site.
Notes
Before you compare the IP
- Mesh products and cable gateways may place key status fields in slightly different menus.
- A public WAN IP that does not match your detected public IP can still mean something other than CGNAT, such as another device upstream.

FAQ
NETGEAR router questions
What if my WAN IP and public IP do not match?
That points to another NAT layer somewhere between your router and the internet. It may be local double NAT or ISP-level NAT, so use the next steps in the checker result.
Can firmware updates change where the WAN IP appears?
Yes. The wording and menus may move slightly, but the status or internet section is still the right place to look.
